Lowell Perry, chief diversity officer, senior vice president, Corporate & Community Engagement, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., recently spoke to a group of undergraduate members and urged them to follow Alpha Phi Alpha General President Mark Tillman's direct challenge for 80 of them to volunteer as Big Brothers.
Tillman will make the same call to action to Alpha men in each of the fraternity’s five regions during the rest of 2014. His goal is for Alpha men to follow his lead as a 12-year Big and get engaged with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“Alpha Phi Alpha will support President Obama's “My Brother's Keeper” initiative by doing what we are already doing - mentoring young men of color,” Tillman said.
Alpha Phi Alpha is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ longest standing community partnership. Alpha has produced two Bigs of the Year, a board member of the Year, and a Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO of the Year.
Dale Long, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, has the distinction of being both a Big and Board Member of the Year.
